March 24, 2026 from 10am-2pm - Expressions in Oil Pastels - Landscapes
n this class, we will discover the possibilities of oil pastels. Typically an underused medium, they are very bold and luscious, inviting a very tactile handling.
The artist will be invited to blend with their fingers, smudge and mix, dilute and smear, and scrape into the medium using palette knives and other tools. Instructor will show how oil pastels have both translucent and impasto qualities. With a wide variety of bold, vibrant colours we will use a landscape as our reference to explore the medium of oil pastels. Instructor will also bring along some other media to experiment with, embracing discoveries along the way, and of course, always keeping it fun.
Supply List:
- Instructor will supply required materials, including paper, student-grade oil pastels, some palette knifes/scrapers, blending medium and sundries. A supply fee of $5 per student will be collected at the beginning of class (this fee is payable by every student even if you bring your own pastels). Please be prepared with cash on the day of class.
- Optional: If you have your own pastels, you may bring along.
- Please bring a photo/image to paint.
